RFI: LiveJournal Feeds

Sometime in the recent past -- though probably before they laid off most of the staff -- the feeds of various LiveJournallers that I follow stopped showing up in my reader.

Anyone else having this problem? Anyone have any thoughts about how to fix it?

(I hate having feeds suddenly fail, particularly since it seems to happen all of the time.)

Hm. If you have any sort of LiveJournal account of your own, you could put in a support request and see what comes of it. I know that LJ blogs have automatic RSS feeds, but I have no idea what to do if they stop working.

(If one of those feeds happens to be from my blog, just be aware that I haven't posted in a while. But if it is from my blog and you're not getting the feed, let me know and I'll open my own support request.)

Let's do some simple debugging.

First question: is the feed still there?

Easy to check, just point a browser at the feed's address and see if you get an XML document back.

If you don't then either you're using the wrong feed address (unlikely, since LJ hasn't changed the pattern for them, and you indicate that they used to work) or the problem is on LJ's side.

If you do get a document back, then the feed hasn't gone away, but your reader isn't showing it to you anymore. What reader are you using? Can you try a different one (like say Google Reader, if that's not already what you are using) with the same feed addresses?

One possible twist is if you've set up your reader to log you in before collecting LJ feeds (which you need to do in order to have the reader pick up "friends locked" LJ posts)--if you have done that, then there's also the possibility that your login is failing for some reason.

Incidentally, I have several LJ feeds in my reader, and haven't seen any problems with them.
